Surfing in Panama Panama is considered to be one of the countries with the best surf in Central America. The surf in Panama is non-stop with swells hitting the Pacific and Atlantic Coasts all year round.
PANAMA'S PACIFIC COASTLINE Southern and southwestern swells pound Panama's Pacific coastline making it more consistent, and at its best, through the rainy months of April to November. The "Azuero" peninsula , and the Veraguas and Chiriqui Provinces are more exposed, creating the perfect conditions for bigger waves (rarely less than 6 feet).
Winds blow predominantly from the north during the dry season months of December through April creating perfect offshore conditions. During the rainy season, wind is light and variable with glassy mornings and evenings. Tides fluctuate from 12 to 18 feet on the Pacific.

THE ATLANTIC (CARIBBEAN) COASTLINE The Caribbean coast receives constant strong swells from November through April and June and July due to wind and cold fronts to the north, and it is generally flat from August through October.
Winds blow from the north during the dry season months of December through April creating onshore conditions in more exposed provinces like Colon, nevertheless, in the Bocas del Toro province, the islands serve as a barrier for wind making it less exposed and producing one of the best and Epic Surfing in the country. One special fact about the Caribbean side is that the tide only fluctuates about "3 feet" between high & low tide so you can surf all day long without having to wait for tides. |
